About the Role
The Home/Parent Liaison strengthens the connection between school, home, and community. The role focuses on improving attendance, supporting special education services, and providing professional clerical and public-facing support. This position requires strong communication, cultural awareness, and flexibility to support students, families, and staff while helping build a positive school culture.
Responsibilities
- Clerical & Public Support – Answer phones, greet visitors, provide information, and maintain accurate records and files. Prepare letters, reports, and logs as needed.
- Attendance & Student Support – Monitor attendance, conduct outreach and home visits, and connect families with resources to remove barriers to regular attendance. Reinforce positive messages about school engagement.
- SPED Support – Assist case managers and families with communication, scheduling, and follow-through on IEP services; maintain confidentiality and accurate documentation.
- Family & Community Engagement – Build relationships with families, provide orientations for new students, and link families to community resources.
- Transportation – Provide safe student transport when needed for appointments, re-entry meetings, or emergencies.
- Culture Building – Support school events and initiatives that promote a welcoming and inclusive school climate.
Requirements
- Community College and/or vocational school degree with study in job-related areas.
- Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling, and fine finger dexterity.
- Typically requires 40% sitting, 30% walking, and 30% standing.
- No history of child abuse, neglect, or substance abuse.
- Ability to complete a YN Tribal School background check.
- Must pass a pre-employment background check and drug test.
- Must possess a valid Washington State Driver’s License with the ability to obtain a Yakama Nation Driving permit.
Skills & Qualifications
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Professionalism and customer service skills when working with students, families, staff, and the public.
- Experience in clerical/office work with phone and public interaction.
- Experience in schools, social services, or family engagement, including with SPED populations.
- Knowledge of Yakama Nation culture and resources.
- Knowledge of child development, attendance practices, community resources, and basic special education processes.
- Ability to manage clerical tasks, data entry, and records with confidentiality.
- Ability to communicate effectively and maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to build positive working relationships with families, including those facing barriers.
- Flexibility, problem-solving, and teamwork skills.
- Cultural awareness and sensitivity to Yakama Nation traditions and families.
Preferred Qualifications
- Valid First Aid card.
- Familiarity with attendance systems and student data platforms.
- Enrolled Yakama Preference, but all qualified applicants are encouraged to apply.
