The Resident Specialist III (Home Decorator) performs moderately complex design and planning work in a residential environment at a State Supported Living Center, serving people with intellectual and developmental disabilities who are medically fragile or who have behavioral problems. This role involves creating and maintaining the interior and exterior environments of all residential homes on the facility, individualizing design plans, themes, and color schemes based on residents' desires, needs, and prescribed requirements.

Responsibilities

• Ensures support is maintained for all individuals in their living environments by collaborating with the Interdisciplinary Team (IDT), including Qualified Developmental Disability Professionals, Nursing and Physicians, Home Managers, Habilitation and Vocational Therapies, parents/guardians, and the individuals themselves to create design plans, themes, and color schemes.
• Monitors living conditions and prepares, distributes, and tracks correspondence, forms, documents, and monitoring reports for work orders and maintenance requests.
• Purchases items needed for design plans and maintains an inventory of furniture and décor to sustain needs, including keeping extra inventory on hand for immediate replacement of damaged items.
• Designs and presents plans for individuals' environments, including paint schemes, home décor, bedding, furniture, and window dressings.
• Communicates with departments such as IDT, maintenance, purchasing, volunteer services, and other residence or facility employees regarding individuals’ home décor needs and services.
• Maintains facility property, equipment, and individuals’ personal effects.
• Participates as a team member to plan resident assessments and program goals, objectives, strategies, and activities.
• Submits and follows up on work orders to maintain the interior and exterior home environment and mitigate safety hazards.
• May assist with facilities management responsibilities, including repairs, key controls, or supply and equipment requisitions.
• Actively participates in disaster response, recovery, or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation, which may require alternate shift patterns or locations.

Requirements

• Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent is required.
• Work experience at a State Supported Living Center is required.
• Must pass a fingerprint criminal background check, pre-employment drug screen, and registry checks including the Client Abuse/Neglect Reporting System (CANRS), Nurse Aide, Medication Aide, and Employee Misconduct and HHS List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE).
• Males between the ages of 18 – 25 must be registered with the Selective Service.
• Must be at least 18 years of age to be considered for employment at a state-operated facility.
• All State Supported Living Center employees are subject to random drug testing.
• Flexibility in work hours may be required, including overtime, extended hours, weekends, and holidays.
• Must be willing to travel up to 15%.

Preferred Qualifications

• Associate degree in any field.
• Experience designing home environments or conducting environment reviews.

Skills

• Knowledge of Life Safety Code and applicable building standards for State Supported Living Centers (SSLCs).
• Knowledge of practices, principles, and use of computers and relevant software (Windows, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, databases).
• Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively over the telephone, verbally, and in writing.
• Ability to identify and define customer needs, gather and analyze facts, and devise solutions to problems.
• Ability to perform accurate data entry, analyze data, and prepare concise reports.
• Ability to use independent judgment and plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments.
• Ability to establish effective working relationships with supervisory personnel, co-workers, health professionals, and the public.
• Ability to react calmly and quickly in emergency situations.
• Ability to design and coordinate paint color, furniture, and home décor.

Pay

Salary Range: $3,248.00 - $4,837.08 per month

Schedule

• Full-time, regular position.
• Day shift.
• May require extended shifts, overtime, weekends, and holidays.
• Flexibility in work hours may be required.
