About the role
Our client is a housing and care provider in Bedford, committed to providing high-quality care, support, and housing. They are currently looking for Home Care Assistants to provide care and support to tenants in their own homes within a range of housing, including a registered care home, extra care housing, sheltered housing, and general needs housing.
Fixed contracted hours are offered, with shifts scheduled 4 weeks in advance. Shifts take place between 07:45 and 22:30, Monday to Sunday, with a requirement to work one weekend in two.
Responsibilities
- Work as part of a team to provide personal care and support to tenants, ensuring they retain independence.
- Administer drugs and medication when trained and required.
- Develop a strong understanding of the individual needs of tenants and build positive, lasting relationships.
- Comply with standards required by the Care Quality Commission and the client.
- Assist tenants with personal care, including washing, toileting, dressing, undressing, continence control, and mealtimes, according to their planned care needs.
- Use equipment provided for moving and handling tenants correctly after training.
- Treat all tenants with dignity and respect at all times.
- Maintain accurate and comprehensive Care Plan Records.
- Attend handover meetings.
- Act within legal and regulatory requirements covering care services, including the Care Standards Act, Health & Safety requirements, and Fire Regulations.
- Demonstrate up-to-date knowledge of safeguarding vulnerable adults and work within these guidelines.
- Comply with the client’s policies and procedures.
- Ensure interactions with tenants are warm and professional, addressing questions or referring to a manager when necessary.
- Assist with catering or housekeeping duties when required.
- Undertake training as required to fulfil the duties of the role.
- Perform any other duties reasonably required by the client.
Requirements
- Demonstrate an understanding of the needs of older people.
- Willingness to undertake training to achieve an NVQ Level 2 in Care.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong team player.
- Good customer care skills.
- Trained in the administration and safe handling of medication (desirable but not essential).
Qualifications
- NVQ Level 2 in Care (desirable).
- Experience of working in a care environment (desirable).
- Understanding of Health & Safety (desirable).

Schedule
