Holiday Lights Installer
About the role
This is a short, busy season from October through mid-December installing professional Christmas light displays on homes and businesses throughout the Castle Rock area. You'll work with a crew, climb ladders, walk roofs, solve problems, and turn ordinary houses into festive displays. It's hard work, but you get to be part of people's Christmas traditions and see the finished product light up at the end of the day.
Compensation
- $22–$40+/hour – installers earn a percentage of revenue from jobs completed. Earning around $22/hour while learning the installation system is realistic; strong installers will have periods earning $30–$40/hour or more.
- Customer tips
- $10 for every Google review you receive
Experience + heights
You do not need previous professional Christmas light installation experience – we'll teach you our system. You do need to be comfortable with ladders and roofs before your first day. The installation season only lasts about 10 weeks, so we don't have time to help someone become comfortable with heights. If you're already comfortable carrying and climbing extension ladders and walking on residential roofs, we can teach you the rest.
Safety comes first. We use professional equipment and safety gear and train crews on how to work at heights safely.
Who does well here
This is a great fit for someone who wants to make extra money heading into the holidays and doesn't mind working hard to do it.
You'll probably enjoy this job if you:
- Like being outside and staying active
- Are already comfortable with ladders, roofs, and heights
- Enjoy working with a crew
- Like building things and seeing a finished product
- Can take coaching and learn quickly
- Are competitive and like working efficiently
- Can solve problems without needing someone to tell you every next step
- Show up when you say you will
You'll be working on customers' homes during an important time of year. We want installers who can have fun with the crew while still taking pride in the details.
This probably isn't the right fit if…
- Heights make you uncomfortable or you've never been comfortable on a roof
- You can't carry a 40–50 lb ladder
- You don't want a physical outdoor job
- You regularly show up late
A day in the life
We typically meet at 8:00 AM in Castle Rock and head out from there. Most days you'll work with a crew installing custom Christmas light displays on residential homes – roofline lights, wreaths, garland, trees, ground lighting, and other parts of the display. Some projects take a few hours; others can take most of the day. You'll climb ladders, work from roofs, carry equipment, troubleshoot lights, and figure out how to make each display look clean and professional. Some days are beautiful Colorado fall days; some days are cold. It's physical work, and during our busiest weeks we move quickly. The favorite part is seeing the lights turn on and how you impacted somebody's holidays.
