About the role
This position is responsible for providing maintenance services to the entire plant, primarily addressing electrical, electronic, or automation problems. The Technician's main focus is resolving breakdowns involving automation and electrical systems, as well as performing scheduled downtime tasks such as Preventative Maintenance and Corrective Maintenance. The role involves advanced troubleshooting of sophisticated automation systems, system re-design, and new equipment installation. The Technician works as part of the Maintenance crew on either Day Turn or Shift Work, collaborating with Maintenance Engineers, supervisors, and Operations personnel.
Responsibilities
- Performs inspections, consults with operations, and reviews downtime reports to monitor maintenance issues in assigned areas.
- Maintains an up-to-date list of all maintenance issues in assigned areas.
- Works with the Mechanical Maintenance team (Engineer, Group Leader) and outside contractors to schedule and complete urgent work.
- Collaborates with the Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor and Engineer on projects, upgrades, and ensuring necessary spare parts are stocked, potentially involving equipment manufacturers or outside companies.
- Keeps assigned areas clean and free from accumulated trash or used parts; schedules housekeeping as needed.
- Repairs or replaces defective or damaged components affecting mill equipment, including identifying, retrieving, and installing required parts.
- Completes maintenance work orders for electrical, mechanical, or automation tasks, performed during downtime or while equipment is running.
- Documents information for the maintenance team and fills out PM Check Sheets as required.
- Performs miscellaneous jobs assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor, Maintenance Engineer, or Mill Manager.
- Fills in for other Maintenance Technicians as needed.
- Participates in relevant continuous improvement programs.
Requirements
- Minimum of a High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED).
- Two years of industrial experience and/or a technical degree related to Industrial Automation.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to learn, adapt, and retain information.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
Physical demands
- Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, and use hands for technical tasks.
- Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Requires mobility in the plant, including climbing ladders, twisting, bending, stooping, and working in narrow, confined areas.
- Visual ability with or without correction.
- Communication abilities.
Health and safety

- Follow Company safety rules and report any defects in protective equipment or clothing to the Supervisor or Manager immediately.
- Use required personal protective equipment (PPE), including:
- Safety shoes
- Safety glasses
- Hearing protection
- Hard Hat
- Respirators (requires being clean-shaven)
- Fire Retardant clothing
- Acid PPE (in some areas)
- Follow all Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) guidelines for designated machines.
- Follow all Environmental Policies and Regulations.
- Maintain a clean and safe work area.
Work environment
Work is performed in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations, in clean, well-ventilated, and safe areas.
