HLS Sr. Software Systems Engineer – Lunar Permanence

About the role

This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin’s Blue Moon landers and related products. The position directly impacts the history of space exploration and requires commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable space flight.

Responsibilities

  • Work with systems engineers, developers, and program managers to define system autonomy behaviors and software requirements.
  • Train, guide, and mentor team members on software systems engineering best practices.
  • Set direction and goals for the team regarding the development of requirements, verification events, and test cases.
  • Manage hardware-software integration problems and work across vehicle and mission design teams.
  • Deeply understand the safety-critical software development process and ensure that software behavior is properly captured to ensure a safe mission.

Requirements

  • B.S. or higher degree in computer science, computer engineering, aerospace engineering, or related field or equivalent experience.
  • 8 years professional experience minimum.
  • Experience in developing software requirements, verification plans, and test cases.
  • Experience working across systems and software disciplines, leading cross-functional groups.
  • Experience in spacecraft design and operations.
  • Experience with fault management design.
  • Experience reviewing software architecture, design, and code.
  • Experience with data budgets, command and telemetry definitions, and ground system integration.
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships.

Qualifications

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with System Safety Assessments and reviewing safety artifacts.
  • Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE).
  • Experience with Agile methodologies.
  • Aerospace industry experience with safety critical software and/or tools qualification activities.
  • Experience with NPR 7150.2D.
  • Experience with compiled languages, C/C++.
  • Experience with scripting languages, Python/JavaScript.
