Summary

The HLA Technologist functions as testing personnel in the histocompatibility laboratory. The HLA Technologist performs routine and STAT testing in support of living and deceased organ transplantation, platelet refractoriness, and HLA testing for other purposes.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and STAT testing for histocompatibility, including molecular HLA typing, HLA antibody screening, Flow Cytometry, crossmatching, and ABO blood grouping.
  • Rotate 24/7 on-call duties with other laboratory members to facilitate deceased donor transplantation.
  • Maintain careful documentation of test records, quality control, and corrective actions.

Requirements

  • Associate Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or Science, or equivalent, or Doctor of medicine or osteopathy, or Doctoral, master’s, or bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory science, or military enlisted occupational Medical Laboratory Specialist.
  • Knowledge of clinical laboratory procedures, practices, and theory through a Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology or related field.
  • Current ACHI certification as a Histocompatibility Technologist (CHT(ACHI)), or Medical Laboratory Technician, Medical Laboratory Scientist, or equivalent high complexity testing credential, or eligible to obtain such certification within 18 months of hire.
  • Minimum one year of experience in the clinical laboratory setting.
  • Proficient in Excel.
  • High level of critical thinking and organization.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in human histocompatibility testing, meeting ASHI Standards.
  • Experience with HistoTrac and EPIC.

Pay

The pay range for this position is $29.45 to $39.84 per hour. Compensation for part-time positions is determined on a prorated basis consistent with the scheduled hours and applicable full-time equivalent (FTE).
