Schedule
- Monday - Friday 0500-1330
- Rotating Saturdays
- Weekends, holidays, on-call, and other shifts as needed
About the Role
Perform a variety of histology laboratory functions, which include processing of specimens, embedding, microtomy, H&E staining, and slide distribution. Produce quality tissue processing and histologic specimens to the expectations of pathologists and clients.
Responsibilities
- Perform histology laboratory procedures with a high degree of proficiency and efficiency.
- Meet departmental productivity standards.
- Operate laboratory equipment, interfaces, and instruments; perform and document basic and advanced maintenance and complex calibration procedures.
- Serve as Key Operator for assigned instrument(s) as needed or directed.
- Perform routine logging for Quality Control (QC)/Quality Assurance (QA) purposes.
- Collect and compile QA data as directed; monitor QC for trends and take corrective action as needed or directed.
- Participate in QC/QA tracking; follow through on problems and develop appropriate solutions using defined guidelines.
- Coordinate, compile, and prepare QA data; perform audits as necessary.
- Review and prepare monthly QC reports.
- Assist with the development of procedure documents and job aids as needed.
- Perform all troubleshooting procedures; identify problems and develop appropriate solutions using defined guidelines.
- Under general supervision, perform research and development tasks, including research and validation testing.
- Actively participate in preparation for regulatory inspections, taking responsibility for section and/or department as assigned.
- Participate in training new employees and students:
- Provide instruction and information regarding protocols and theory as appropriate.
- Track progress of trainees.
- Assess trainee competency in specified areas.
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent plus 60 hours of college, including 12 semester hours of biology and chemistry in any combination.
- Nine (9) months of direct Histology experience (independent embedding, microtomy) OR completion of TriCore's Histology Apprentice Program.
- Qualified for enrollment in an accredited NAACLS histology training program.
Qualifications
Requirements include High School diploma or equivalent and successful completion of college-level courses in biology, chemistry, and math.
