Responsibilities

  • Provides appropriate clear, accurate & timely intra/extradepartmental communication
  • Demonstrates annual CLIA/CAP/JCAHO compliance for age specific competency
  • Participates/monitors quality with appropriate meaningful accurate activities
  • Contributes to maintaining high department skill and service levels that meet needs
  • Maintains efficiency, production and output with appropriate task prioritization
  • Affirms workflow patterns assuring appropriate TAT and task performance
  • Monitors and participates in PreAnalytic testing phase laboratory activities
  • Monitors and participates in Analytic testing phase laboratory activities
  • Monitors and participates in PostAnalytic testing phase laboratory activities
  • Provides bench status (report) when leaving the work area
  • Communicates occurrences beyond accepted/expected parameters
  • Captures daily bench tasks with volume workflow
  • Maintains areas of responsibility in compliance with accreditation guidelines
  • Uses good judgement during task performance while consulting on non-routine issues
  • Assesses assessments carefully with documentation compliance
  • Utilizes resources responsibly making thoughtful decisions regarding: equipment, the physical facility, supplies and inventory
  • Maintains a safe professional environment observing identification/security procedure
  • Maintains equipment safely by diligently following instrument PM/QC schedules
  • Maintains patient safety initiatives respecting focus and concentration of self/others
  • Maintains bench activities that comply with target TAT and enhance workflow
  • Engages in training initiatives that enhance skill levels meeting needs and standards
  • Interacts and deters without conflict
  • Complies with department and hospital policies, procedures, objectives and standards
  • Promotes uniform adherence to department and hospital policy and procedure
  • Enhances team building efforts and supports change with acceptance and flexibility
  • Identifies and resolves routine problems independently using appropriate resources
  • Improves services with support/involvement in developing new methods and products
  • Schedules PTO appropriately
  • Follows department and hospital work-time related rules
  • Reports at station prepared to begin bench tasks at start of shift

Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited Histotechnology training program or equivalent, or a Medical Technology training program that includes Histotechnology training, is required.
  • An Associates Degree is preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a full service histology laboratory with knowledge of specialized techniques is required.
  • Must possess the ability to operate and maintain: 1) complex laboratory equipment providing routine histology services and 2) Hospital/Laboratory Information Systems.
  • Must have knowledge of accreditation requirements, compliance methods and inspection preparedness.
  • Licensure/Certification HT (ASCP), MT/MLT(ASCP), HTL(ASCP) or eligible.

Qualifications

  • Education: Completion of an accredited Histotechnology training program or equivalent, or a Medical Technology training program that includes Histotechnology training, is required. An Associates Degree is preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a full service histology laboratory with knowledge of specialized techniques is required.

Skills

  • Operates and maintains complex laboratory equipment providing routine histology services and Hospital/Laboratory Information Systems.
  • Knowledge of accreditation requirements, compliance methods and inspection preparedness.
