Schedule

Full time, Monday through Friday: 8 am to 4:30 pm.

Responsibilities

• Act as a preceptor for new employees and histology students/interns while providing leadership and mentoring to histotechnicians, histotechnologists, and laboratory support staff.
• Perform quality control testing, equipment maintenance, identify and troubleshoot problems affecting test performance or reporting.
• Ensure analytic accuracy, precision, and sensitivity in test methods.
• Maintain established facility and department policies and procedures.
• Conduct analytical activities related to specimen processing, embedding, microtomy, routine and special histologic staining, frozen sectioning, cover slipping, and handling of irreplaceable tissue, surgical, and body fluid specimens.
• Participate in proficiency testing programs, ensuring deadlines are met and samples are analyzed like patient samples.
• Perform immunohistochemical staining, document quality control, and maintain instrumentation and supplies.
• Transport hazardous waste from the point of generation to a designated secure storage area (initial and refresher training required).
• Register, order, and accession pathology specimens into computer systems.
• Follow safety policies, including the use of PPE, handwashing, and hazardous chemical handling, and adhere to the Chemical Hygiene plan and Infection Control policies.
• Prepare specimens for research requests.
• Assist in collecting and processing biological specimens for analysis following established procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Ability to prepare tissue specimens to confirm patient diagnoses.
• Ability to perform complex histological procedures, record and analyze data, and maintain/repair instruments.
• Up-to-date knowledge of specimen handling, ranging from accession to specimen storage.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
• Knowledgeable in troubleshooting and problem resolution.
• Ability to support continuous laboratory service improvement to ensure timely preparations for quality diagnoses.
• Ability to maintain safety standards and comply with government regulations in laboratory practices.
• Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures in the health care industry.
• Ability to communicate appropriately and effectively with patients and their family, hospital staff, nurses, physicians, and other health care professionals.
• Must be able to read, write and speak conversational English.
• Basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office.

Qualifications

• Associate degree required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
• Field of Study: Florida - Associate's in a chemical, biological, clinical or medical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution OR education equivalency with 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses; or 24 semester hours of science courses that include: 6 semester hours of chemistry, 6 semester hours of biology; and 12 semester hours of chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory technology in any combination; AND have a laboratory training program that includes: completion of a clinical laboratory training program approved or accredited by the ABHES or the CAAHEP (this training may be included in the 60 semester hours listed above); or at least three months documented laboratory training in each specialty in which the individual performs testing OR qualified and served as testing personnel on or before April 24, 1995 in a CLIA-certified laboratory as of December 28, 2024, and have done so continuously since December 28, 2024.
• Multi-State Division - Bachelor's in a chemical, biological, clinical or medical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution OR education equivalency with 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses; or 24 semester hours of science courses that include: 6 semester hours of chemistry, 6 semester hours of biology; and 12 semester hours of chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory technology in any combination; AND have a laboratory training program that includes: completion of a clinical laboratory training program approved or accredited by the ABHES or the CAAHEP (this training may be included in the 60 semester hours listed above); or at least three months documented laboratory training in each specialty in which the individual performs testing OR qualified and served as testing personnel on or before April 24, 1995 in a CLIA-certified laboratory as of December 28, 2024, and have done so continuously since December 28, 2024.
• 5+ years of experience as a histotechnologist or in a histology laboratory setting required; 2+ years of experience in histology in an AdventHealth laboratory setting preferred.

Pay

Pay Range: $26.08 - $48.50 per hour.
