Histotechnician
About the role
The Histotechnician position at MercyOne Central Iowa involves performing various histology laboratory procedures to prepare tissue slides for pathologists. This includes examining tissue structures and characteristics across different age groups, maintaining equipment, and supporting quality management systems.
Responsibilities
- Perform all steps in the preparation of tissue for diagnosis by a pathologist
- Examine tissue structures and characteristics as appropriate for patient age
- Perform preventative maintenance and basic trouble shooting of instrumentation and equipment
- Recycle reagents and file blocks and slides
- Aid in the selection of new instruments or methods, their evaluation, implementation, and training
- Support quality management systems and performance improvement initiatives
- Utilize LEAN principles and productivity standards
- Train new employees
- Maintain supply inventory
- Operate laboratory information systems, personal computers, and instrument-related computer software
- Rotate call shifts
Requirements
- Completion of an approved histotechnician program OR at least 60 semester hours of academic credit from a regionally accredited college/university with a combination of 12 semester hours of biology and chemistry AND one year full-time acceptable experience in histopathology under the supervision of a pathologist
- Certification as a Histotechnician HT (ASCP) is preferred

Schedule
Monday-Friday 6am-2:30pm, no holidays or weekends
