Histotechnician

Responsibilities

• Assists Pathology Assistants/Pathologists with specimen grossing, embedding, microtomy, staining (H&E and special stains)
• Performs slide quality checks
• Maintains and operates histology instrumentation
• Accomplishes accessioning and charting (daily logs)
• Supports bone marrow biopsies and aspirations, and other special procedures
• Handles send-outs and morgue/autopsy procedures
• Performs advanced duties such as immunohistochemical staining, maintenance of IHC instrumentation, and QC of new reagent lots
• Supports clinical lab assistant duties (filing blocks/slides, frozen room maintenance, cytology prep)
• Performs delegated histological procedures on body tissue, body fluids, and bone marrow samples

Requirements

• Appropriate education to obtain and maintain a Histologic Technician licensure in the State of Nevada
• Experience as a Clinical Laboratory Assistant in Histology or a Clinical Laboratory Histology Technician preferred
• Ability to obtain a State of Nevada Laboratory Assistant and Nevada Histologic Technician (NAC 652.437) licenses within 7 and 25 months of hire respectively
• National accreditation as a Histotechnician/Histotechnologist preferred

Qualifications

• Working-level knowledge of the English language
• Knowledgeable of and observance of all safety requirements in the laboratory and hospital
• Comprehensive knowledge of all procedures for which performance is required
