About the role

LabCorp, a global leader in laboratory services, is seeking a Histotechnician to join the team at St. Thomas Midtown Hospital in Nashville, TN. The position supports the preparation and analysis of human tissue and body fluid specimens to deliver high‑quality patient care.

Work Schedule

3rd shift; either 4 × 10 hours Tuesday – Friday (4 am – 2:30 pm) or 5 × 8 hours Monday – Friday (4 am – 12:30 pm).

Responsibilities

  • Process human tissue and body fluid specimens in preparation for microscopic exam.
  • Perform technical duties related to the production of histopathological slides of surgical specimens.
  • Section embedded tissue using a microtome and mount sections properly on microscope slides.
  • Perform various immunohistochemical tests on formalin‑fixed paraffin‑embedded tissue sections.
  • Process mounted sections through routine and special staining procedures.
  • Properly orient and embed surgical tissue specimens.
  • Prepare stains and reagents needed for special procedures.
  • Report accurate and timely test results to support quality patient care.
  • Operate and maintain manual and automated instruments.
  • Perform and document equipment maintenance as needed.
  • Record equipment log data accurately and promptly.
  • Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality‑control procedures.
  • Adhere to the laboratory’s quality‑control policies.
  • Follow laboratory procedures for specimen handling, processing, analysis, and reporting.
  • Document problems that may affect test performance and take corrective actions as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in a chemical or biological science, clinical laboratory science, or medical technology.
  • Two or more years of experience as a Histotechnician.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Histology and/or ASCP certifications.
  • Two or more years of immunohistochemistry experience.
  • Two or more years of experience working in a high‑volume hospital laboratory environment.

Additional Job Standards

  • Non‑traditional degrees with applicable science credits that meet CLIA standards may satisfy the education requirement.
  • Familiarity with routine histology procedures and equipment.
  • Comfortability embedding both large and small specimens.
  • Ability to accurately read all labels and documents.
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with laboratory SOPs and safety protocols.
  • Ability to pass a standardized color‑blindness test.

Pay

$10,000.00 sign‑on bonus (external applicants only).
