Knowing history is the mark of a well-educated person. It can also be the foundation of a rewarding career. History courses Our history courses include United States History, Women in American History, Western Civilization,African American History, English History and Native American History. Our history program is built around the Associate in Arts (A.A.) degree. This degree gives you a solid two-year background in general education courses that can transfer to a four-year institution. Most courses also meet the global perspectives requirement in the degree. It also allows 23 hours of elective courses that let you focus on your specific history interests. Civil Rights Pilgrimage The Metropolitan Community College-Penn Valley Brooks Institute is proud to support one of the college's premiere experiences, its annual Civil Rights Pilgrimage. Since 2002, students, instructors and community members have traveled to the American South on a trip, exploring the rich cultural history of our country's civil rights movement. Every spring, MCC hosts a four-day bus tour in April, traveling to destinations that mark milestone events, many consider sacred to the expression of freedom in the United States. Learn more about the Civil Rights Pilgrimage Careers Teaching is not the only career for history graduates. Many seek careers in law, public history, historic preservation, communications, government work, business and industry Visit Occupational Information Network (O*NET) to view salary information and employment outlook. Bright career outlook for Historians According to O*NET Online, Historians has a bright career outlook with a projected growth of 6 to 8% between 2023-2033. On the website, sample of reported job titles include County Historian, County Records Management Officer (County RMO), Historian, Historic Interpreter, Historic Sites Registrar, Historical Interpreter, Research Associate, and Researcher. We've worked out specific transfer agreements with many four-year colleges and universities. While MCC does not offer a degree in this field, these freshman- and sophomore-level courses easily transfer to a four-year college or university. Depending on your chosen major, these courses may apply toward your degree or as elective credits.
