Histology Technician

About the role

Gastro Health is seeking a Part-time (PRN/Per-Diem) Histology Technician to join a collaborative team in a rapidly growing organization. This position offers consistent Monday through Friday hours with no weekends or evenings, supporting a great work/life balance.

Responsibilities

• Prepare reagents in the laboratory.
• Comply with all safety regulations and handle biohazards and/or chemically hazardous material.
• Perform routine histology from accessioning to cover slipping, including cutting paraffin sections and embedding processed tissue.
• Prepare material for staining, cut and stain re-cut slides, special stains, and esoteric tests requested by pathologists.
• Maintain, troubleshoot, and operate complex automated equipment.
• Manage lab reagents and supply inventory needed for daily staining procedures.
• Conduct QC and QA of adequate control material for laboratory tests.
• Enter clinical data/information into the laboratory information system (e.g., order entry, patient demographics, results).
• Perform repetitive or routine duties under the direction of the laboratory manager, following written procedures.
• Handle special projects and other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Associate or Bachelor of Science in biology or related field required.
• HT or HTL certification by ASCP.
• Previous experience as a histotech preferred.
• Ability to establish work priorities and handle multiple tasks for maximum workstation efficiency.
• Strong interpersonal skills for internal and external client interactions, with courtesy and tact.
• Alert, energetic, and detail-oriented with constant monitoring of workflow.
• Punctual, dependable, and attentive to detail.
