Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate all histology laboratory operations, including tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, staining including IHC, and slide preparation.
- Recruit, manage, and mentor Histology staff, including scheduling, training, competency assessments, performance evaluations, accountability, and safety.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory, accreditation, and safety standards (CAP, CLIA, OSHA, and state requirements).
- Monitor quality control and quality assurance programs to maintain accurate and timely results.
- Collaborate with pathologists, laboratory leadership, and other healthcare professionals to optimize workflow and service delivery.
- Oversee laboratory inventory, equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, and vendor relations.
- Develop, implement, and update laboratory policies, procedures, and standard operating protocols.
- Analyze laboratory performance metrics and identify opportunities for process improvement.
- Participate in budget planning and resource management.
- Ensure turnaround times and productivity goals are consistently met.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree (or higher) in a chemical, physical, or biological science from an accredited institution, with at least four years of relevant laboratory experience following qualification.
- Certification as a Histology Technician (HT) or Histology Technologist (HTL) by American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP).
- Minimum of 5 years' experience as a Histology Technician or Histotechnologist including 3 years’ experience as a Histology/IHC Supervisor.
- Strong knowledge of CAP/CLIA regulations, excellent organizational and communication skills, proficiency with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS), and a proactive problem-solving mindset.
Work Schedule
Monday through Friday 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
