Histology Laboratory Assistant – 2nd Shift

About the Role
As a Laboratory Assistant in the Histology department, you will support the critical functions of our histology laboratories. This includes preparing tissue samples for technicians, maintaining whole slide scanners, and ensuring digital slide and patient requisition image quality for the Pathology team. Extensive training is provided, making this role suitable for both experienced lab professionals and those new to the field.
Responsibilities
- Input sample information into the laboratory database.
- Stock benches with necessary materials to support histology technicians.
- Operate special equipment to prepare samples for histology technicians/technologists.
- Pack samples for storage.
- Ensure accurate and timely delivery of casework and collateral materials to remote pathologists.
- Maintain and troubleshoot virtual microscopy (VM) systems for remote viewing and digital slide analysis.
- Organize and archive pending and completed VM cases.
- Track VM system errors and troubleshoot issues with pathologists, labs, vendors, IT, and others.
- Assist with various administrative tasks and other duties as required.
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience (prior histology lab experience is a plus but not required).
- Ability to work the specified schedule consistently.
- Thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume work environment.
- Willingness to work with and around veterinary tissue samples.
- Ability to read, understand, and follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), including safety and quality protocols.
- Familiarity and comfort with computer-based data entry (prior data entry experience preferred).
- Strong prioritization, multitasking, and attention to detail.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Ability to meet physical requirements: standing/sitting for extended periods, phone/computer use, extended reach, lifting up to 50 lbs., and specific vision abilities (close, color, depth perception, and focus adjustment).
- Potential exposure to biohazards, zoonotic disease agents, and hazardous chemicals.

Schedule
- Monday - Friday, 3:00 PM – 11:30 PM (hours may vary slightly based on business needs).
- Reliable and dependable attendance is essential.
