Responsibilities

• Understand and apply general lab policies/procedures as well as department/section-specific protocols.
• Review and adhere to all posted policy changes and regulatory guidelines.
• Assess situations, evaluate options, and determine appropriate courses of action with minimal supervision.
• Demonstrate initial and annual competency in designated lab sections within set deadlines.
• Accurately perform proficiency testing as scheduled.
• Participate in continuing education activities and mandatory annual training.
• Assist the laboratory team with miscellaneous duties, including specimen receiving and supply management.
• Organize and complete daily tasks in assigned areas efficiently.
• Troubleshoot and resolve instrument problems, document corrective actions, and perform repairs when necessary.
• Investigate and resolve specimen-related issues.
• Perform and document preventative maintenance and safety checks of equipment according to schedule.
• Train new employees and/or students on general and department-specific lab policies/procedures.
• Adhere to JCAHO National Patient Safety Goals for the Laboratory, including verbal orders and patient identification.
• Demonstrate cultural competence through appropriate communication interventions for all customers across diverse ages and populations.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent (required).
• Medical terminology background (required).
• 1-2 years of experience in histology assisting (preferred).
