About the role

The Special Education Teacher, under the direction of the Special Education Program Administrator, provides high-quality instructional services to students in grades 9–12. This role requires strong collaboration, adaptability, and a commitment to supporting students with mild/moderate disabilities through specialized instruction, academic interventions, and consultation with general education staff.

Responsibilities

  • Provides specialized academic instruction aligned with student IEPs
  • Develops, implements, and monitors IEP goals, accommodations, and modifications
  • Collaborates with general education teachers to support inclusive practices
  • Conducts assessments and participates in IEP meetings as required
  • Implements behavior support strategies and partners with school behavior teams
  • Maintains accurate documentation, progress reports, and compliance with district/state requirements
  • Supports students across various school environments (classroom, resource room, etc.)
  • Communicates regularly with parents, administrators, and multidisciplinary teams
  • Provides a safe, structured, and supportive learning environment
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university (preferred)
  • Valid California Education Specialist Instruction Credential – Mild/Moderate (Preliminary or Clear required)
  • Experience working in a school setting preferred
  • Complies with all relevant professional standards of practice
  • Current CPR certification (if applicable)
  • TB test, PPD, or chest X-ray (per state/district requirement)
  • Current health certificate (if required by contract or state regulation)
  • Must meet all federal, state, and local requirements
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
