About the Role

Sarasota Memorial Health Care System is a non-profit hospital located in Sarasota, Florida. The system is rapidly growing, with recent expansions including a new hospital in Venice, a Cancer Institute on the Sarasota campus, and plans for a new hospital in North Port. This role involves professionally interviewing and scheduling patients for outpatient services, including preregistration. You will coordinate patient schedules to maximize satisfaction for both patients and physicians, communicate instructions and requirements, maintain scheduling and pre-registration accuracy, create financial estimates, and collect payments as indicated. You will also ensure patients meet hospital financial policies and transfer complex situations to appropriate departments.

Responsibilities

• Interview and schedule patients for outpatient services, including preregistration.
• Coordinate patient schedules to maximize satisfaction for patients and physicians.
• Communicate patient instructions, physician order requirements, and authorization/pre-certification/referral requirements to patients, physician office staff, and other SMHCS personnel.
• Maintain scheduling and pre-registration accuracy per department standards.
• Create estimates for patient financial responsibility and collect co-insurance, co-payment, and deductible as indicated.
• Initiate processes to ensure patients meet hospital financial policies and transfer complex situations to appropriate departments.

Requirements

• Minimum of one (1) year of customer service, general administrative, or healthcare experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Ability to analyze problems and offer solutions.
• Experience working in a call center environment.
• Effective communication skills, including handling difficult customer situations.
• General knowledge of medical insurance and terminology.
• Knowledge of ICD-9/ICD-10 coding and current CPT coding.

Qualifications

High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent certificate required.

Pay

$18.35/hr. to $27.30/hr.
