AECOM is seeking a Roadway Inspector II to join our Transportation team in the Murray, UT office. This is an excellent opportunity for a construction inspector looking to build on their field experience while supporting the delivery of transportation infrastructure projects throughout Utah.

In this role, you will work directly in the field to monitor roadway and infrastructure construction and help ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project plans, specifications, quality standards, and applicable requirements. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with roadway or transportation construction inspection, strong attention to detail, and the ability to communicate effectively with contractors, project managers, engineers, and agency representatives. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform daily field inspections of roadway and transportation construction activities to verify work is being completed in accordance with approved plans, specifications, contract requirements, and applicable standards.
  • Monitor construction activities and contractor performance, identifying quality or compliance issues and communicating them to the project team.
  • Maintain accurate daily inspection reports, field notes, photographs, quantities, testing documentation, and other project records.
  • Observe and document construction activities involving roadway, earthwork, drainage, concrete, asphalt, utilities, structures, traffic control, and related transportation improvements.
  • Coordinate with contractors, subcontractors, engineers, project managers, testing personnel, and agency representatives regarding construction activities and field conditions.
  • Perform measurements and assist with quantity tracking to support project payment and progress reporting.
  • Assist with materials testing, quality assurance activities, punch lists, project closeout, and other construction administration activities.
  • Monitor construction progress and help verify conformance with project specifications, quality requirements, and applicable UDOT standards.
  • Identify potential construction issues and communicate concerns to the project team to help minimize delays, rework, and quality issues.
  • Support project managers and resident engineers with field documentation, contractor coordination, progress tracking, and project administration.
  • Participate in project meetings and provide updates regarding construction progress, quality, safety, schedule, and outstanding field issues.
  • Develop effective working relationships with clients, contractors, and project stakeholders while representing AECOM professionally in the field.
  • Organize daily inspection activities and priorities based on project needs and established schedules, exercising sound judgment when addressing routine field conditions.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent plus 2 years of related experience, or demonstrated equivalency through a combination of education and experience.
  • A valid driver's license is required, along with the ability to pass a Motor Vehicle Records (MVR) check in accordance with company policy.
  • Ability to lift and carry at least 50 pounds on a consistent basis.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and active construction environments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • SRDTT Concrete Testing Certification or the ability to obtain the certificate within 6 months.
  • Prior UDOT construction inspection or materials testing experience.
  • Previous experience working with a municipal, county, or state transportation agency.
  • Experience performing construction materials testing and quality control documentation.
  • Familiarity with roadway, bridge, and transportation construction projects.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and documentation skills.

Compensation and Benefits

Offered rate of compensation will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The range for this position is $23 to $35 hourly.
