Responsibilities
- Functions as a Crew Leader in the Sign Crew, handling district work orders, sign repairs, and installations.
- Replaces missing and damaged signs and erects new signs.
- Operates equipment including backhoes, excavators, 5-yard and 8-yard dump trucks, forklifts, and bucket trucks.
- Leads construction of traffic control operations for work zones, including flagging traffic to ensure crew and public safety.
- Flags traffic during road repairs to manage traffic flow and protect workers, the public, and equipment.
- Assists with crew operations by entering daily work into HMMS, assigning tasks, compiling reports, and training subordinates on equipment operation.
- Assists the Crew Foreman as needed.
- Participates in on-call operations for after-hours emergencies and emergency plans such as Snow and Ice Plan and Hurricane Lane Reversal Plan.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Two (2) years of related work experience or an approved acceptable equivalence.
- A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required.
- Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.
Physical Requirements
- Bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, grasping, and physically manipulating objects of varying size, shape, weight, and material.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Walking for extended periods, treading rough and uneven terrain, and working in close proximity to motoring traffic and natural environmental hazards.
- May work outside normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather or departmental-related emergencies.
- Frequently exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions, noise, and oil or grease.
