Responsibilities
- Perform roadway and right-of-way maintenance activities using manual labor and proper maintenance techniques, including:
- Signage and pavement markings
- Driveway installation and maintenance
- Construction of drainage appurtenances
- Litter/debris removal
- Vegetation management
- Bridge maintenance
- Patching and paving
- Operate equipment such as tandem dump truck, large roller (4 tons), skid loader, standard dump truck with snow plow and salt spreader attachments.
- Flag traffic in low and high volume areas to control traffic flow and protect workers, equipment, and the public during maintenance operations.
- Assist in placing traffic control devices in accordance with the MUTCD manual.
- Perform common maintenance activities including patching, limb and brush trimming, sign and pavement marking maintenance, shoulder and ditch work.
- Conduct and document pre-trip equipment/vehicle inspections following departmental rules, policies, and fleet safety procedures.
- Operate small equipment, power tools, and hand tools to perform assigned maintenance activities.
- Remove snow and ice from roadways and bridges using dump trucks with snow plows and salt spreaders.
- Respond to duties during inclement weather events and after-hour emergencies as part of on-call services.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Six (6) months of related work experience or an approved acceptable equivalence.
- Valid motor vehicle operator’s license.
- Attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.
Physical Demands
- Perform physical tasks including bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and grasping.
- Physically manipulate objects of varying size, shape, weight, and material.
- Lift up to 50 lbs.
- Walk for extended periods, tread rough and uneven terrain, and work in close proximity to motoring traffic and natural environmental hazards.
- May be required to work outside of normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and emergencies.
- Frequently exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions, noise, oil, or grease.
