Responsibilities
- Performs vegetation management activities using equipment such as a tractor with mower (≤10' wide), brush chipper, chainsaw, and powered tools.
- Operates medium equipment, including a tandem dump truck, for road and bridge maintenance activities in the state highway system.
- Coordinates traffic control device placement to establish and maintain proper work zone safety according to the SCDOT Work Zone Traffic Control and Field Guide.
- Performs manual labor to assist with installing and repairing catch basins and other drainage structures.
- Collects litter, debris, and dead animals.
- Assists in emergency and inclement weather operations, including availability for extended hours or 12-hour shifts, day or night.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- No minimum training or experience requirements for this classification.
- A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required.
- Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.
Physical Demands
- Involves bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and grasping.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Requires walking for extended periods, treading rough terrain, working near moving traffic, and exposure to natural environmental hazards.
- May require work outside normal scheduled work week, especially during inclement weather.
