Highway Maintenance Technician - CDL Driver / Equipment Operator - Rogers Pass

About the role

The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) is recruiting a Highway Maintenance Technician in Rogers Pass. This position performs a variety of work as a laborer, lead worker, equipment operator, and truck driver for highway maintenance activities. Responsibilities

• Operate various trucks and heavy equipment
• Perform culvert placement and installation/cleaning
• Remove landslides
• Apply crack/mastic sealing
• Build fences or repair bridges
• Install guardrails or signs
• Maintain luminaires
• Conduct roadway repair
• Handle vegetation and roadside maintenance
• Carry out pavement marking and striping operations
• Perform snow and ice control

Requirements

• Valid Montana Commercial Operators License (Class A, Type II license with no restrictions and a tank endorsement
• Valid Medical Examiner’s Certificate (MEC)
• Applicants with a learner’s permit have 30 days to obtain the required Montana Commercial Operators License
• Must live or relocate within 45 road miles of the Rogers Pass Section House and have a telephone or be reasonably accessible to the section headquarters
• May be assigned to a training assignment; training‑assignment employees may be paid below the base pay, with conditions stated in writing at hire

Qualifications

• Maintenance Technician I – $28.59/hour: Requires 1 year experience driving heavy truck or operating construction equipment
• Maintenance Technician II – $29.09/hour: Requires 2 years documented experience from another city, county, or state highway road department performing road maintenance
• Maintenance Technician III – $29.59/hour: Requires 3 or more years documented experience from another city, county, or state highway road department performing road maintenance
• Experience determines level placement and wage; applicants may be placed up to Level III based on documented relevant road‑maintenance experience

Pay

• Maintenance Technician I: $28.59 per hour
• Maintenance Technician II: $29.09 per hour
• Maintenance Technician III: $29.59 per hour
• Possible statutory $
