About the role

CDOT has a vacancy for a Highway Maintenance Specialist in Maybell, CO. The position provides training to obtain a Colorado Commercial Driver's License Class A or B and offers a base pay of $2074.62 biweekly ($53,940 - 54,000 annually).

Responsibilities

  • No two days are exactly the same. Activities change based on project needs and weather.
  • On-call work, including responding to emergencies outside regular work hours.
  • Work in a team environment, with at least one lead highway maintenance specialist and multiple specialists.
  • Main job activities include plowing snow, operating heavy equipment, mowing grass, removing debris, and installing and repairing various infrastructure elements.
  • Ensure roadways are safe and accessible for all Coloradans and visitors.

Requirements

  • At least two (2) years of physical labor and/or heavy equipment operation experience.
  • Valid regular driver’s license and ability to obtain a CDL Permit within 30 days of hire.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid Commercial Driver’s License Class A or B within 120 days of hire.
  • Pass a pre-employment screening, including a DOT drug test and DOT physical.
  • Willingness to respond to emergencies outside regular work hours and work overtime including weekends and holidays.

Pay and Schedule

  • Base pay: $2074.62 biweekly ($53,940 - 54,000 annually).
  • Annualized hourly rate: $25.93/hour, with an overtime rate of $38.90/hour.
  • 40-hour work weeks, with opportunity for overtime during weather emergencies.
  • 4-day work schedule (10-hour days Monday-Thursday) during the summer months, typically May through September.

Schedule

  • Shift work.
  • Essential Services Designation - Required to report without delay or interruption to provide essential or emergency services.
  • May be required to live within 30 minutes' driving time in normal weather conditions to be able to respond in a timely manner after being notified to report to work.
