About the role
The Carbella / Emigrant Field Maintenance Supervisor plans and delivers maintenance projects such as pavement overlays, bridge repairs, chip seals, drainage systems, and winter road maintenance. The role involves coordinating and performing various maintenance projects, overseeing Section operations, and supervising permanent and temporary staff. The position reports to the Division Maintenance Superintendent.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate and perform maintenance projects with safety, engineering, and environmental considerations.
- Supervise Carbella/Emigrant Section Maintenance staff, including permanent and temporary employees.
- Adjust schedule as needed, including responding to call-ins outside regular hours.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Five (5) years of construction/field maintenance-related experience and six (6) months of direct or one (1) year of indirect supervisory experience (preferably in maintenance, construction, or a relevant field) and a valid Montana Commercial Operator’s License (Class A, Type II) with no restrictions, a tank endorsement, and a valid Medical Examiner’s Certificate (MEC).
- OR a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Technology, Business Management, Business Administration, or Public Administration and one (1) year of work-related experience and six (6) months of direct or one (1) year of indirect supervisory experience (preferably in maintenance, construction, or a relevant field) and a valid Montana Commercial Operator’s License (Class A, Type II) with no restrictions, a tank endorsement, and a valid Medical Examiner’s Certificate (MEC).
- Must live or relocate within 30 road miles of the work headquarters and be reasonably accessible to the section headquarters (telephone required).
- Valid Montana Commercial Operator’s License (Class A, Type II) with endorsements for air brakes and tankers, with no restriction for operating a manual transmission.
- Proof of eligibility to work in the United States (sponsorship for work authorization is generally not available).

Schedule
Primarily a day job, but call-ins regularly occur, and the schedule may be adjusted as needed.
This position is posted in accordance with the CRAFTS bargaining unit agreement. Preference will be given first to Bozeman Division bargaining unit applicants.
