Highway Engineer I

About the role

We are currently seeking a qualified Highway Engineer I to join our Transportation team in one of our Florida offices located in Jacksonville, Pensacola, Tampa, or Orlando. In this role, you will contribute to the planning, analysis, and design of roadway and transportation infrastructure projects for a variety of public-sector clients.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the design of roadway, highway, bridge, and transportation improvement projects for state and local agency clients.
• Prepare geometric layouts, roadway alignments, maintenance of traffic (MOT) plans, ADA improvements, drainage considerations, and transportation safety enhancements.
• Develop construction plans, specifications, cost estimates, and supporting project documentation.
• Utilize OpenRoads Designer (ORD), MicroStation, Civil 3D, and other engineering software to develop design models and construction documents.
• Perform engineering calculations, technical analyses, and design evaluations to support project development.
• Collaborate with project managers, engineers, planners, and technical staff to deliver high-quality transportation solutions.
• Participate in field investigations, site visits, and data collection activities to support project planning and design efforts.
• Afford agency coordination and support compliance with applicable federal, state, and local design standards.
• Prepare technical memoranda, reports, and presentation materials as required.
• Support project schedules, quality control efforts, and overall project delivery objectives.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited engineering program.
• Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification required.
• Minimum 2 years of experience in highway, roadway, or transportation engineering.
• Experience utilizing OpenRoads Designer (ORD), InRoads, MicroStation, Civil 3D, or similar roadway design software.
• Familiarity with AASHTO, FDOT, MUTCD, and ADA design standards and guidelines.
• Strong analytical, technical writing, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to analyze engineering alternatives and develop practical design recommendations.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple assignments and work effectively in a deadline-driven environment.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary project teams.
• Self-motivated with a commitment to professional growth and continuous learning.

Pay

The salary range for this position is $60,000 - $80,000 annually, commensurate with experience.

Schedule

This is a full-time position with standard business hours.
