About the role
Step into Your New Role As a Highway Engineer, you will be directly involved in the design and execution of a wide range of transportation projects, from small enhancements to large infrastructure developments. Collaborating with a skilled team of engineers, designers, and construction professionals, you will contribute technical expertise and innovative solutions to ensure project success.
Responsibilities
- Project Design and Execution: Perform detailed design work for highway and transportation projects, including intersections, road widenings, interchanges, and smaller enhancements.
- Technical Development: Prepare engineering documents for project advertisements and construction, ensuring compliance with applicable design criteria and regulatory standards.
- Engineering Analysis: Conduct design calculations, technical analysis, and produce project specifications for transportation infrastructure.
- Collaboration and Coordination: Work closely with internal teams, clients, and sub-consultants to ensure design alignment and compliance with project requirements.
- Budgeting and Scheduling: Assist with project budgeting, cost estimates, and schedule tracking to support project efficiency and financial management.
- Site Assessments: Conduct site visits and inspections to gather data and ensure design accuracy, providing technical support throughout the construction phase.
- Construction Support: Address design-related questions or issues that arise during project execution, ensuring smooth implementation of engineering plans.
- Client Interaction: Travel occasionally to project or client sites for meetings, site assessments, and project-related tasks.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering (BSCE) from an ABET-accredited program.
- 6+ years of experience in highway and transportation design.
- Registered Professional Engineer (PE) preferred.
- Strong hands-on experience with roadway, intersection, and interchange projects.
- PennDOT and/or Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission (PTC) design experience preferred.
- Proficiency in design and plan preparation using MicroStation and related software.
- Knowledge of Federal, State, and local jurisdiction permitting regulations.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for collaborating with team members, clients, and regulatory agencies.
- Valid driver’s license with a safe driving record.
