About the role

Each and every role at HDR makes a difference in our ability to change the world for the better. As a Highway Engineer, you’ll work as a key member of a highway/roadway design team for moderate to large projects and independently on smaller projects.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare or oversee roadway/highway design work using local or AASHTO standards: horizontal and vertical alignments, roadway sections, intersection layouts, sight distance determinations, interchange layouts, and right-of-way plans.
  • Assist in managing larger projects or manage smaller projects, including preparation of scopes, budgets, and schedules.
  • Handle day-to-day communication (verbal and written) with the design team and client, support and advise junior engineers and technical staff, write reports and technical memos, coordinate with subconsultants, keep projects on schedule and within budget, and ensure client satisfaction.
  • Perform other duties as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (BSCE) or related field.
  • 5+ years of transportation engineering design experience.
  • Professional engineering license (PE or P.Eng) recognized by the licensing board for the position’s location.
  • Hands-on experience with highways and roads CAD engineering software such as Bentley ConceptStation, OpenRoads Designer, Autodesk Infraworks, or Civil3D.
  • Proficiency in MS Office.
  • Experience with urban and rural highway interchanges, intersection design, traffic management, transportation planning, site planning, preparation of concept alignments, geometrical layout, and CAD-based alignment plans.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working on Ohio DOT projects.
  • Experience with Design-Build projects.

Pay

Expected compensation range for this position in Cincinnati: $79,800 – $114,000, depending on skills, experience, education, and geographical location.

Schedule

Full-time, hybrid role based in Cincinnati, Ohio.
