Highway Design Intern - Summer 2027

About the role

VHB’s Providence, RI team is looking for a talented Highway Design Intern to join us for the Summer of 2027. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a dynamic team, across diverse disciplines, giving you exposure to a wide variety of projects in size and scope.

Responsibilities

• Use and create geospatial transportation data.
• Create text and spreadsheet documents and manipulate data.
• Effectively interact with VHB staff to advance projects in a timely manner.
• Work within a team of professionals in developing transportation design and solutions for a multitude of transportation and highway-related projects.

Skills and Attributes

• Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to independently perform multiple tasks and interact appropriately and positively with coworkers.
• Self-motivated with attention to detail.
• Familiarity with transportation planning and traffic engineering principles and resources.
• Team oriented with strong capability to work independently.

Requirements

• Currently pursuing undergraduate or master’s degree in civil engineering, or related field

Pay

The hourly pay range for this position, located in Rhode Island, is $19 to $30. The actual hourly rate offered will be determined based on job-related factors, including geographic location, internal equity, experience, credentials, skills, education, work schedule, and other factors permitted by law. The posted hourly range reflects base pay only.
