Opportunity Summary

The High Voltage Transmission Lead Technician inspects, maintains, and repairs high-voltage transmission lines, towers, and related equipment to ensure safe and reliable system performance. This role coordinates emergency response and restoration efforts with NYPA, contractors, and field crews, while overseeing testing, troubleshooting, and preventative maintenance to minimize outages and maintain system reliability.

Compensation

Compensation: Base pay rate of $70.34 per hour.

Scope of Responsibility

  • Conduct routine inspections of high-voltage transmission lines, towers, and associated equipment to identify defects, evaluate asset condition, and maintain system reliability.
  • Plan, coordinate, and oversee preventative, corrective, and emergency maintenance activities, including storm restoration and repair or replacement of conductors, insulators, line hardware, and related equipment.
  • Supervise transmission system testing, diagnostics, fault analysis, and protective relay verification to identify issues and ensure reliable system performance.
  • Cookordination vegetation management and right-of-way (ROW) maintenance activities to maintain required clearances and support safe, reliable transmission operations.
  • Lead field crews, contractors, and maintenance activities to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with established procedures and project schedules.
  • Audit accurate documentation of inspections, maintenance activities, equipment condition, and work history within CMMS and asset management systems, including Maximo.
  • Assign, prioritize, and monitor work orders while analyzing maintenance data to improve planning, asset performance, and operational efficiency.
  • Collaborate with maintenance teams and stakeholders to develop and optimize maintenance schedules that maximize equipment availability and minimize downtime.
  • Maintain compliance with company policies, regulatory requirements, and industry standards while supporting the safe, reliable operation of high-voltage transmission and substation assets.

    Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

    • Standing and walking for extended periods.
    • Climbing stairs and fixed ladders within substations and transition stations.
    • Working from elevated platforms, cable structures, and access ways at varying heights.
    • Routine lifting of tools, equipment, and components up to 50 pounds.
    • Exposure to outdoor weather conditions, confined spaces, noise, and industrial hazards including energized electrical equipment and oil-filled systems.
    • Required personal protective equipment (PPE) may include arc-rated clothing, hard hats, safety glasses, voltage-rated gloves, dielectric footwear, hearing protection, and fall protection, with fit testing and site-specific safety training as required.
    • Strict access control and smoking restrictions apply within all facilities.
    • Employees must participate in the Fitness for Duty Program, which includes a post-offer physical examination, drug screening, and post-employment random drug screening.

    Working Relationships

    The High Voltage Transmission Lead Technician reports to the Plant Manager and coordinates with all plant and transmission personnel.
