About the Role

The head coach demonstrates the capacity to manage every aspect of the sports program, from coordinating high‑level practice sessions to providing exceptional leadership and a meaningful coaching experience for student‑athletes throughout the season and into regional and state competitions. The coach recruits and organizes an effective assistant coaching staff, oversees fundraising initiatives, and upholds the highest standards of sportsmanship and teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Organizes and oversees all aspects of the athletic program.
• Prepares student‑athletes physically and mentally for interscholastic competition through structured practices, instruction in fundamental skills, and thorough knowledge of rules.
• Reviews eligibility forms and submits required documentation to the Student Activities Director.
• Ensures all physical and academic requirements are met for each player and provides necessary information to establish the VHSL eligibility list.
• Supervises the cleaning, storage, and proper maintenance of all equipment.
• Requests supplies, uniforms, and necessary equipment through the Student Activities Director.
• Promotes positive school‑community relations by keeping families and the community informed and engaged with the athletic program.
• Conducts pre‑season meetings with parents and guardians.
• Prepares daily practice plans and leads practice sessions.
• Attends all required VHSL clinics.
• Adheres to county financial policies regarding the collection and receipting of funds.
• Maintains regular attendance as required.

Requirements

• Previous coaching experience, knowledge of the sport, and current understanding of coaching techniques and strategies.
• Strong leadership, organizational, and effective communication skills.
• Prior experience managing team fundraising efforts (preferred).

Background Check

Pay

Minimum salary: $3,440 per month (stipend prorated based upon the work begin date; if two candidates share the responsibility, the stipend will be split accordingly).
