About the role
High School Sports Reporter - Boston MassLive, the largest news and information website in Massachusetts, is seeking an experienced high school sports reporter to expand its Boston coverage.
Responsibilities
- Work alongside the High School Sports Editor to build Boston coverage
- Play a role in content strategy
- Report on the biggest schools in the state
- Write and report from games
- Gather data for the high school sports stats platform
- Develop creative storylines
- Utilize digital media to produce multi-dimensional content
- Responsible for all aspects of coverage, including rankings for teams and players, breaking news, and feature stories
Requirements
- A degree in journalism or communication, or equivalent education and work experience with proven ability in journalism reporting and writing
- Minimum of two years of journalism experience with a proven ability in reporting and writing required
- Ability to work independently and remotely under deadline pressure and prioritize tasks appropriately
- Strong understanding of news writing, reporting, journalistic ethics, and story structure
- Must be able to work nights and some weekends
- Ability to learn and master methods and applications used to deliver content across various platforms
- Ability to leverage relationships with sources to differentiate the organization from competitors
- Mastery of social media and digital interaction
- Bilingual and multilingual language skills are a plus
- Ability to shoot, edit, and publish short-form video content optimized for Instagram and mobile audiences
- Comfortable appearing on camera for live hits, interviews, and social media-first reporting; broadcast experience a plus
Pay
This position pays between $49,500 to $56,000 annually.
