About the role
The ideal candidate will help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, knowledgeable, and responsible individuals.
Responsibilities
- Implement the school's mission and educational standards
- Assist in enforcing student conduct policies
- Protect students and school property
- Maintain accurate records
- Continually improve professional skills
- Attend staff meetings, serve on committees, and foster cooperative relationships with students, colleagues, and parents
- Work with other staff to create an effective educational environment
- Plan and deliver lessons that meet students' individual needs
- Create an engaging and orderly learning environment
- Use positive behavior interventions
- Absess and document student progress
- Address learning challenges with specialist support
- Meet the needs of special program students
- Oversee and evaluate the performance of educational assistants and volunteers
Requirements
- A Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university
- A valid teacher certification appropriate for the specific assignment and grade level as required by federal, state, or local regulations, including the No Child Left Behind Act
- Prior experience or formal training in working with “at-risk” students is preferred
- Proven ability to work in a polite and friendly manner with various constituencies including parents, students, and staff
- Ability to effectively educate and manage students from diverse backgrounds and socio-economic levels
- Experience in effectively handling conflict
