About the role

The ideal candidate will help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, knowledgeable, and responsible individuals.

Responsibilities

• Implement the school's mission and educational standards
• Assist in enforcing student conduct policies
• Protect students and school property
• Maintain accurate records
• Continually improve professional skills
• Attend staff meetings, serve on committees, and foster cooperative relationships with students, colleagues, and parents
• Work with other staff to create an effective educational environment
• Plan and deliver lessons that meet students' individual needs
• Create an engaging and orderly learning environment
• Use positive behavior interventions
• Absess and document student progress
• Address learning challenges with specialist support
• Meet the needs of special program students
• Oversee and evaluate the performance of educational assistants and volunteers

Requirements

• A Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university
• A valid teacher certification appropriate for the specific assignment and grade level as required by federal, state, or local regulations, including the No Child Left Behind Act
• Prior experience or formal training in working with “at-risk” students is preferred
• Proven ability to work in a polite and friendly manner with various constituencies including parents, students, and staff
• Ability to effectively educate and manage students from diverse backgrounds and socio-economic levels
• Experience in effectively handling conflict
