About the role
Prep Academy Tutors of Northern Los Angeles is seeking qualified, dedicated, and compassionate High School Science and Math Teachers and Tutors to provide personalized, one-on-one academic support to students in Grades 9–12 throughout the Northern Los Angeles area.
Responsibilities
- Provide one-on-one tutoring for high school students (Grades 9–12) in mathematics and/or science
- Support students in subjects including Algebra I & II, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, Statistics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Environmental Science
- Assist with homework, study skills, executive functioning, and test preparation, including AP courses and SAT/ACT math and science-related content when appropriate
- Develop individualized learning plans based on each student's needs and academic goals
- Monitor student progress and provide regular updates to families
- Foster a positive, engaging, and supportive learning environment
- Travel to students' homes throughout the Northern Los Angeles area
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Science, Education, Engineering, or a related field required; teaching credential or advanced degree preferred
- Valid California teaching credential or equivalent is highly preferred
- Experience teaching or tutoring high school mathematics and/or science
- Strong knowledge of high school math and science curriculum and instructional best practices
- Ability to explain complex concepts clearly and adapt instruction to diverse learning needs
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
- Reliable transportation
- Authorized to work in the United States
Qualifications
- Qualified applicants must hold a bachelor's degree and meet at least one of the following criteria:
- Hold a valid California teaching credential or equivalent
- Be a current student teacher pursuing a teaching credential
- Have two or more years of experience teaching high school mathematics and/or science in a public, private, or charter school
- Have significant experience providing one-on-one or small-group tutoring in high school math and/or science
- Be a graduate student in Mathematics, Science, Education, Engineering, or a related field with teaching or instructional experience
