High School Head Athletic Trainer

About the Role

EPIC PT, part of Intune Physical Therapy, is hiring an athletic trainer to work at a local charter school in Johnston County during its inaugural year, helping launch the athletic training program. You will be employed by Intune Physical Therapy under the EPIC PT brand, supporting high school athletics and occasional middle school coverage. The position is contracted with American Leadership Academy, working directly with the school's Athletic Director. While there is no teaching requirement, it may be an option for additional pay.

Responsibilities

  • Establish an effective athletic training program for high school athletics, including occasional middle school coverage.
  • Develop and follow sport-specific and venue-specific protocols for conditioning, return-to-sport, and Emergency Action Plans (EAP).
  • Maintain accurate documentation for all treatments, injuries, and communications.
  • Comply with HIPAA and OSHA standards.
  • Provide coverage at home events and practices from the start of the fall sport season through the conclusion of the spring season.
  • Maintain direct communication with EPIC Physical Therapy’s business supervisor, the designated orthopedic practice, and the Athletic Director.
  • Order and stock necessary inventory for athlete safety.
  • Communicate clearly with parents regarding athlete conditions, precautions, and injury updates.
  • Coordinate annual athletic physicals and IMPACT testing, supervising the clearance of injured athletes.
  • Oversee the ordering of supplies and equipment for the athletic training room and maintain an up-to-date inventory.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from a CAATE-accredited college or university.
  • Current state licensure in accordance with the North Carolina Board of Athletic Trainer Examiners.
  • Maintain current certification and continuing education requirements for licensure.
  • Current certification in CPR/Emergency Cardiac Care.
  • Job-related experience in a middle school or high school setting is preferred.
  • Must perform within the scope of practice and adhere to the signed protocol of the partnering physician, as well as state and national requirements, ethics, and laws.
  • Compliance with NCHSAA and state/county coverage responsibilities.
  • Ability to reliably commute to Smithfield, NC 27577 or plan to relocate before starting work.

Schedule

Monday to Friday, with some nights and weekends required to accommodate school athletic events.
