About the role
HANAC, Inc. is a New York City-based social services organization founded in 1972. HANAC provides a broad range of programs and services that support older adults, families, immigrants, job seekers, and other vulnerable populations throughout New York City.
Responsibilities
- Meet learning outcomes and performance standards prescribed by funding sources and program requirements.
- Provide instruction in Adult Basic Education (ABE) and High School Equivalency (HSE) preparation, including: Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Reading and Writing.
- Prepare and implement lesson plans aligned with program curriculum and student learning objectives.
- Utilize a variety of instructional methods, educational technology, and curriculum resources to engage adult learners.
- Maintain accurate daily attendance records and support student retention efforts in accordance with funding requirements.
- Monitor and document student progress, assessments, and educational outcomes.
- Maintain complete and accurate student files and required program documentation.
- Participate in professional development, staff meetings, and training sessions as required by HANAC and funding agencies.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Education, Liberal Arts, Science, or a related field.
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience teaching Adult Basic Education (ABE), High School Equivalency (HSE/GED), or other non-traditional adult education programs.
- Experience developing lesson plans and delivering instruction to adult learners with varying educational backgrounds.
- Proficiency in classroom technology and virtual learning tools.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate and engage adult learners from diverse backgrounds.
- Experience preparing students for the GED examination.
- Knowledge of TABE assessments, NRS educational functioning levels, and adult education performance standards.
- Experience utilizing interdisciplinary curricula and multiple assessment methods.
