High School Elective Teacher

About the Role
We are hiring music teachers to deliver world-class instruction in a safe and welcoming environment. Teachers will build inclusive, nurturing classrooms where students collaborate toward common learning goals, working alongside colleagues, parents, and students to ensure the best educational experience.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrate passion for and expertise in music
- Use data to guide and effectively differentiate instruction
- Incorporate feedback from school leaders, colleagues, students, and professional development to grow professionally
- Build relationships with students and parents to foster a safe, welcoming, and engaging learning environment
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the Lansing School District mission
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in education or music practice
- Previous experience working with children
- Alignment with Lansing School District’s mission and values
Qualifications (Preferred)
- Valid Michigan teaching certificate with a specialty endorsement (e.g., JX, JQ)
- Previous teaching experience in an urban setting
- Training in CRPBIS and related instructional methodologies
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Move throughout the building and campus, including classrooms, hallways, and outdoor spaces
- Frequent verbal communication to instruct students, lead meetings, and collaborate with staff and families
- Stand or walk for extended periods, including during supervisory duties
- Occasional bending, reaching, or sitting on the floor to interact with students
- Regular use of computers and instructional technology for planning, instruction, and communication
- Lift or carry instructional materials and supplies weighing up to 25 pounds
