About the role

Deliver engaging, high-quality standards-aligned science instruction using effective, research-based instructional practices that meet diverse learning needs at the high school level. Collaborate with families and colleagues, plan and teach integrated science content, use assessment data to inform instruction, support Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) structures, and incorporate technology to enhance engagement.

Responsibilities

  • Teach chemistry using hands-on, inquiry-based investigations that emphasize concepts and evidence-based reasoning
  • Scaffold learning for on-level classes and drive rigor in honors sections, covering stoichiometry, chemical kinetics, equilibrium, thermodynamics, and atomic structure
  • Teach applied mathematical foundations of chemistry, including dimensional analysis, algebraic manipulation, logarithms, and graphical analysis
  • Develop and utilize a variety of assessments to inform teaching
  • Differentiate instruction for varied learning styles and individual student needs
  • Implement safety standards, proper hazardous waste disposal, chemical storage protocols, and emergency response
  • Foster curiosity and a growth mindset through questioning, problem-solving, collaboration, and real-world connections
  • Transform instruction through creative use of technology
  • Participate in curriculum development, school improvement committees, and professional development opportunities
  • Contribute to a team-based approach to planning and school-wide initiatives
  • Maintain regular, reliable, and punctual attendance

Requirements

  • State of Michigan Teaching Certification (required) with Chemistry endorsement (IC or DC preferred), or IP, DP, DQ, DI, DX, IE, or DE endorsements
  • Experience teaching high school science students (preferred)
  • Experience engaging high school students in hands-on, inquiry-based chemistry investigations (preferred)
  • Experience with Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) and Positive Behavior Intervention Strategies (PBIS)
  • Deep understanding of core and advanced chemistry concepts
  • Proficiency in teaching applied mathematical foundations of chemistry
  • Excellent organizational, communication (written, verbal, and listening), and classroom management skills
  • Ability to work cooperatively with students, parents, teachers, and administrators
  • Ability to motivate and inspire high school students
  • Belief that all children can learn and ability to accept differences in students
  • Enthusiasm, flexibility, and willingness to contribute to team-based initiatives

Pay

Per Contract Salary Schedule.
