High School Cadet Instructor- Primary EMT (Emergency Services Instructor, Grade 20)
About The Position
The salary range above represents this position’s earning potential. The anticipated hiring range for this position will be $67,672 to $102,385, based on the candidate’s qualifications and experience.
Educational Requirements
- Age: Twenty-one (21) years or older.
- Experience: Three (3) years of experience, in either a paid or volunteer capacity, in performing duties and responsibilities associated with fire suppression and/or emergency medical services (EMS).
- Education: Graduation from high school or High School Certificate of completion recognized in the State of Maryland or a high school equivalency diploma.
- License: Possession and maintenance at all times of a valid Class "C" (or equivalent) driver’s license from the applicant's state of residence appropriate to the equipment operated by an employee in the discipline assigned.
- Training/Certifications: Applicant must have completed the following training courses: Instructor I Course, consistent with NFPA 1041, Level 1 requirements or equivalent. Human Relations Training consistent with the requirements of the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Commission or equivalent. Practical Rescue training Course consistent with the Montgomery County Practical Rescue course or equivalent. Continuation in this class requires the ability to obtain and maintain Maryland Instructor Certification Review Board (MICRB) certification as an Emergency Services Instructor in the appropriate discipline assigned.
- Additional Requirements: EMT certification with another jurisdiction that has reciprocity with Maryland, or National Registry EMT in accordance with State of Maryland Executive Order No. 20-03-19-03.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year university (preferably in EMS, Fire Science, Education, or a related field).
- MICRB Fire instructor
- MICRB EMT instructor
- MICRB Hazmat instructor
- Two (2) years of experience as a MICRB Instructor.
- Experience developing curriculum, lesson plans, and instructional materials for adult learners.

Job Responsibilities
As the dedicated HS Cadet Emergency Services Instructor – EMT, you will play a vital role in shaping young minds by teaching them EMT, ensuring they are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to provide lifesaving care and uphold the highest standards of service to our community.
- Curriculum Development & Instruction: Develop and deliver lessons and evaluation tools based on curriculum learning objectives. Provide didactic and practical instruction. Plan and coordinate training and educational activities.
- Instructional Delivery & Student Engagement: Prepare and deliver courses, primarily EMT at the Training Academy for the HS Cadet Program. Guide, evaluate, and mentor students during classroom and hands-on training sessions. Develop and implement learner remediation plans in collaboration with the high school cadet coordinator.
- Additional Expectations: Work under routine deadlines, managing multiple projects and instructional schedules efficiently. Collaborate with instructional staff (both uniformed and civilian) to develop and enhance course offerings. Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of Fire/Rescue service delivery within an all-hazards Fire/Rescue department setting. Apply adult learning methodologies and competency-based education principles to instruction. Maintain strong interpersonal skills, flexibility, and teamwork, working closely with colleagues and stakeholders.
