High School Assistant Track Coach

Schedule

Season runs approximately March 2027 through May 2027.

Requirements

• Valid Wyoming Coaching Permit with a Track endorsement (or ability to obtain one prior to the season). Permits are issued by the Professional Teaching Standards Board (PTSB) and can be for head coach, assistant coach, or transitional coach. View endorsement requirements.
• Coaching endorsements are available in: Basketball, Football, Golf, Gymnastics, Skiing, Soccer, Swimming, Tennis, Track/Cross Country, Volleyball, Wrestling, and Softball.
• All paid coaches must hold either a coaching endorsement (if you have a Wyoming Educator License) or a coaching permit (if you do not). Permits or endorsements must be obtained prior to the season to receive compensation. Coaching without a permit is considered volunteer time.
• If a permit is issued after the season, compensation may be available for the following season but not retroactively. If issued during the season, compensation will be prorated based on the portion of the season coached while permitted.

Certifications

• U.S. and Wyoming Constitution Testing or Equivalent Coursework:
  • Submit a PTSB coaching application prior to the season to ensure payment. Applications are available here.
  • Applicants must pass the U.S. and Wyoming Constitution exams or submit college coursework demonstrating knowledge of the U.S. Constitution, including U.S. History prior to 1865. Political Science courses may qualify if they include study of the Constitution.
  • Graduates from a Wyoming Community College or the University of Wyoming may have already met this requirement if they earned a "C" or higher in the relevant course(s).
  • Exams can be proctored by TCSD by appointment. Email wyoptsb@wyo.gov to schedule, specifying which exam(s) you need.
  • Study guides: U.S. Constitution | Wyoming Constitution.
• CPR and First Aid Certification:
  • Must be current and valid (issued within the last three years).
  • Must be obtained through a hands-on course conducted by a certified instructor. Online courses are not accepted.
  • Accepted providers:
    • American Heart Association’s Heartsaver® program
    • American Red Cross
    • College or University coursework in First Aid/CPR
    • NFHS Sport First Aid Course
    • American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) Sport First Aid Course
  • District-offered courses are available. Contact Mike Hansen for details.
• Concussion and Bullying Certification:
  • Free online courses offered through NFHS:
    • Concussion Course (includes exam; certificate must be emailed to hschon@tcsd.org).
    • Bullying, Hazing, and Inappropriate Behaviors Course (includes exam; certificate must be emailed to hschon@tcsd.org).
• Fingerprinting:
  • Required for both the state (PTSB) and the district (TCSD). Applicants must submit 4 fingerprint cards: 2 for PTSB and 2 for TCSD.
  • Can be completed at any sheriff’s office nationwide. Fees vary by location and are the applicant’s responsibility.
  • Teton County requires an appointment. Schedule online.
