High Net Worth (HNW) Tax Supervising Senior
Summary of Role
At GHJ, our Tax Practice is comprised of over 100 professionals, the majority of whom have post-graduate degrees in tax, law or business and have previously worked with “Big Four” accounting firms. Our dedicated tax team is specifically trained in dealing with complex tax issues for privately held businesses, including federal, state and local tax strategies, tax credit maximization, estate planning and international matters. We work with our clients to find appropriate solutions to maximize tax benefits and savings, providing sophisticated advice tailored for each client.
Responsibilities
- Preparing and/or reviewing gift, estate, and fiduciary/trust returns, and coordinating with clients' outside advisors (attorneys, financial advisors, trustees) on wealth transfer and succession planning matters.
- Possessing technical knowledge of Forms 1040, 1041, 1120, 1120S, and 1065, with exposure to gift and estate tax filings (Forms 709 and 706) a plus.
- Organizing and coordinating clients' tax data for the accurate, timely completion of tax returns with additional supervisory responsibilities.
- Establishing and maintaining prompt, professional and courteous relationships with clients.
- Performing detail reviews of tax returns prepared by Seniors and Associates.
- Utilizing tax law and conducting research to answer to clients' questions.
- Communicating with Managers and Partners to ensure timely delivery of engagements.
- Participating in the recruiting and mentorship programs at the Firm.
- Supervising Senior and Associate accountants to ensure that all engagements are completed on time.
- Preparing tax returns of increased complexity.
- Maintaining a solid understanding of current tax law and income/estate tax concepts.
- Preparing and reviewing estimated taxes for individuals and closely held entities.
- Having familiarity with the Passthrough Entity Tax deduction.
- Responding to tax notices of any sort, including initial drafts of any required letters.
- Performing tax research projects of varying complexity.
- Possessing the ability to review trial balances and make adjusting entries in order to prepare tax returns.
- Working with confidential client matters and adhering to client confidentiality agreements.
- Performing other duties as may be assigned.
Requirements
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills, including proven experience liaising with clients.
- Self-starter with the ability to work independently and use good judgment.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, or related equivalent, as well as CPA certification.
- At least four (4) years experience preparing tax returns.
- At least three (3) years experience using computerized tax preparation, tax planning, and tax research software.
- Ability to operate a computer, calculator and other general office equipment.
- Ability to prepare complex and specialized tax returns.
- Ability to conduct special projects as well as tax research.
- Ability to supervise and train tax staff.
- Familiarity with all types of filing forms.
- Tax Compliance of entities and multi-state tax returns.
- Experience in high net worth individual tax returns and/or complex business returns strongly preferred.
- Experience with tax research and preparation software (Bloomberg Tax Planner, CCH Axcess, SurePrep a plus).

Pay
A reasonable estimate of the current range is: $115,000 - $127,000.
