About the role
As part of the South Atlantic GCoE team, you will provide pre-sales engineering, design, and estimation services for multiple building technologies. This remote position supports project development and costing during the proposal phase, including value engineering, cost optimization, and liaison with sub-contractors and vendors. The role can be located anywhere within the US.
Responsibilities
- Lead the pre-sales development process for Johnson Controls Metasys Building Automation System (BAS) solutions, supporting local markets across the South Atlantic for new construction, retrofits, and design-build opportunities.
- Administer the GCoE project development process, reinforcing methodology and skills for collecting, analyzing, and presenting solutions, designs, scopes, and cost estimates.
- Provide input to sales management for opportunity prioritization, qualification, and project development requirements.
- Offer technical sales assistance for opportunities in the sales process, coordinate pre-bid and pre-book estimate reviews, and manage project cost data through the booking process.
- Assemble detailed applications for customer contracts, including project development files, engineering designs, materials lists, and subcontractor bids.
- Provide pre-sales design support, cost development, applications engineering, product selection, specification interpretation, subcontractor RFP generation, and proposal development.
- Review solution applications and cost estimates with sales and operations teams to ensure mutual agreement.
- Assist the sales team in communicating Johnson Controls’ technical value proposition and presenting BAS solutions to customers.
- Define scope and provide direction for outside vendors, subcontractors, and suppliers, including scope, terms, bid forms, and contract reviews.
- Develop control schematics, scope, and cost estimates for system installation projects.
- Interface with the JCI OpenBlue Digital team to define integrated automation and cloud-based analytic software solutions.
- Participate in customer and vendor coordination meetings to identify stakeholder needs, scope overlaps, and gaps.
- Support the operations team during project turnover meetings and provide technical support during system installation.
- Perform detailed engineering or cost impact analysis to quantify cost savings or customer benefits.
- Consult with sales and operations teams to assess project financial and execution risk, recommending mitigation strategies.
- Ensure adherence to the Project Development process and use of standard tools and software.
- Act as a liaison between Sales and System Engineering teams to evaluate product strengths, weaknesses, and applications.
- Evaluate value-engineering options related to BAS for mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
- Participate in turnover meetings with Project Managers to ensure understanding of technical solutions sold.
- Identify and propagate best-in-class engineering practices throughout the business.
- Enforce and adhere to QA/QC policies, procedures, and practices.
- Work closely with team leaders to manage backlog execution, schedule, and forecast project execution.
Requirements
- Five to seven years of controls sales/operations experience with HVAC systems and project cost development of Building Automation Systems (BAS), Automatic Temperature Controls (ATC), or Building Management Systems (BMS).
- Ability to work on US restricted projects.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology or equivalent work experience.
- Demonstrated computer and analytical skills.
- Ability to problem-solve in an ever-changing environment.
- Background in JCI installation operations as an Application Engineer or Installation Sales (preferred).

Pay
Hiring salary range: $76,000 to $100,000. Salary is determined by education, experience, knowledge, skills, internal equity, and market alignment.
