High Impact Phonics Tutor

About the role

Enrichednyc is seeking tutors to work in NYC public schools in the Bronx, Brooklyn and Queens, three days per week, during school hours for 10‑week tutoring cycles. Positions are in‑person, with hours ranging from as early as 8:00 AM to approximately 2:30 PM.

Responsibilities

• Work with small pods of K‑3rd grade students using the Orton Gillingham method to improve reading skills.
• Monitor student progress each week and complete a simple report card at the end of the tutoring run.
• Participate in 3‑5 virtual Orton Gillingham training sessions.
• Attend two Zoom interviews and provide two professional references.
• Complete PETS‑NYC DOE fingerprint clearance.

Requirements

• Education degree or a degree in a related field.
• Experience working with children in a classroom setting.
• Access to Google Slides and a laptop device to connect with the classroom SmartBoard.
• Ability to obtain PETS‑NYC DOE fingerprint clearance.

Qualifications

• Teaching certification is not required but familiarity with the science of reading is preferred.
• Reliable, responsive, conscientious and hard‑working.

Skills

• Orton Gillingham instructional method.
• Familiarity with the science of reading.
• Proficiency with Google Slides and laptop/SmartBoard integration.
• Basic student progress monitoring and report‑card completion.

Schedule

Three days per week during school hours; shifts may start as early as 8:00 AM and run until approximately 2:30 PM.
