Hi-Rail Railroad Technician
About the role
DeAngelo Contracting Services (DCS) is looking for a motivated and skilled Hi-Rail Technician with a positive attitude, strong ethics, mechanical expertise, and a strong focus on safety. This position involves spraying herbicide across various railroads and managing the maintenance and operation of trucks and equipment.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Supervise and manage all jobs/contracts assigned.
- Apply herbicides for weed, grass, and brush control across different railroad locations.
- Handle daily routing and scheduling tasks.
- Perform daily tank mixing of chemicals.
- Conduct truck inspections and manage the maintenance and repairs of the truck and spray system.
- Calibrate all spray equipment.
- Ensure all work is carried out in adherence to strict safety protocols.
- Maintain daily and weekly records.
- Serve as the primary point of contact with customers.
- Address customer and public complaints professionally.
- Report any potential liabilities immediately.
- Possess a thorough understanding of various weed, grass, and brush species.
- Have in-depth knowledge of the chemicals used, including what they control and their safety requirements.
- Fully understand application methods, equipment, calibration, and spray patterns.
Qualifications
- EDUCATION: High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
- EXPERIENCE: Must be 21+ years of age. A valid state drivers license with at least 5 years of clean driving history. Willingness to travel away from home for up to 4-6 weeks at a time (hotel expenses covered by DCS).
- Must pass a pre-employment drug test, DOT physical, and background check to work on railroad property. Commercial Pesticide Applicator License is preferred.
Standard work schedule
Monday through Friday, 7 AM to 4 PM, with shifts typically ranging from 10 to 12 hours. Some weekend or night work may be required. Occasional travel to offices during breaks for truck/equipment maintenance. Work hours may vary based on weather conditions and workload.
