Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Supervise and manage all jobs/contracts assigned.
- Apply herbicides for weed, grass, and brush control across different railroad locations.
- Handle daily routing and scheduling tasks.
- Perform daily tank mixing of chemicals.
- Conduct truck inspections and manage the maintenance and repairs of the truck and spray system.
- Calibrate all spray equipment.
- Ensure all work is carried out in adherence to strict safety protocols.
- Maintain daily and weekly records.
- Serve as the primary point of contact with customers.
- Address customer and public complaints professionally.
- Report any potential liabilities immediately.
Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
- Experience: Must be 21+ years of age. A valid state drivers license with at least 5 years of clean driving history is required. Willingness to travel away from home for up to 4-6 weeks at a time (hotel expenses covered by DCS).
- Background Check: Must pass a pre-employment drug test, DOT physical, and background check to work on railroad property.
- Licenses: Commercial Pesticide Applicator License is preferred.
- Work Schedule: Standard work schedule is Monday through Friday, 7 AM to 4 PM, with shifts typically ranging from 10 to 12 hours. Some weekend or night work may be required. Occasional travel to offices during breaks for truck/equipment maintenance. Work hours may vary based on weather conditions and workload. Spraying is a seasonal task, aligned with the regional office schedule.
- Drug Policy: Must adhere to the company’s drug and alcohol policy.
Training
- Identifying various weeds, grass, and brush species.
- Understanding which chemicals control specific plant species.
- Safely operating application equipment.
- Learning different field application methods.
- Understanding how to properly maintain equipment.
