About the Role
The Custom Applicator is responsible for correctly customizing and applying dry fertilizers to customer fields and operating all applicator equipment, including performing maintenance on the equipment.
Responsibilities
- Recommends and applies pesticides and fertilizers by driving and operating various vehicles and equipment.
- Maintains accurate log books on applicated acres.
- Performs maintenance and calibration on application equipment.
- Wears proper protection equipment.
- Participates in continuing education for maintaining pesticide applicator license.
- Attends applicator equipment workshops.
- Mixes dry and liquid fertilizer.
- Picks up and delivers farm chemicals, fertilizer, and seed.
- Makes sales calls to customers.
- Provides excellent customer service to all internal and external customers.
- Performs other work-related duties as assigned by leader.
- Ensures reliable and regular attendance.
- Fulfills all company policies and procedures.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience in operating large equipment.
- Class A CDL and tanker endorsement.
- One year of applicator experience in spraying row crops and/or strawberries.
- In some states, additional licenses or certifications may be required as per specific contracts.
Qualifications
- Mechanically inclined.
- Willing to be supervised and knowledgeable in operating 5000 and 6000 series John Deere tractor.
- Basic knowledge of ag pesticides and weed identification.
- Accurate reading of field maps.
- Professional competence to safety.
- Ability to pass a CDL physical examination.
- Ability to work without direct supervision.
- Ability to read, write, and speak in English.
- Communicating in Spanish is a valuable skill at Helena.
- Valid U.S. driver's license required to drive a company vehicle.
- Must meet all company requirements to drive a Helena vehicle.
- Applicants for positions requiring operation of a moving vehicle or interaction with heavy equipment must meet the legal age requirement.
