Northrop Grumman Space Systems, Multi-Domain Operations, and Missile Defense Integration Business Unit has an opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer Level 2 or Level 3 in Huntsville, AL. This position supports the GMD Weapon System (GWS) Hardware Engineering team's design efforts within an Agile environment, focusing on E3 analysis, HEMP testing, analyses reports, CDRL development, and test plans/procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Perform analyses in accordance with industry and military standards under program leadership.
  • Lead a design team and write reports to support milestone reviews.
  • Actively lead team meetings, internal/external demos, and document progress on team dashboards.
  • Review and generate engineering documentation, including technical drawings, specifications, and test reports.
  • Mentor and cross-train junior engineers in analysis work, reviews, and approval of their results to meet customer requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM discipline (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics) from an accredited university.
  • Level 2: 2 years of related experience, or a Master's Degree with 0-2 years of related experience.
  • Level 3: 5 years of related experience, or a Master's Degree with 3 years of related experience, or 1 year of related experience with a PhD.
  • Current active in-scope U.S. Government-issued Secret security clearance (required to start).
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 10% of the time.
  • Must support an in-office/closed-area work environment full-time.
  • Experience in E3 and HEMP testing and analysis.
  • Knowledge of standards: MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-464, MIL-STD-188-125-1/2, IEC 61000 series.
  • Experience developing and presenting technical content for milestone technical reviews with Government customers.
  • Experience using Ansys suite for E3 and HEMP analysis.

Preferred Qualifications

  • BS in Mechanical, Systems, or Aerospace Engineering.
  • Familiarity with Missile Defense Agency (MDA) Core Standards: MDA-QS-001-MAP, MDA-QS-003-PMAP, MDA Instruction 5000.20-INS (ETR Process).
  • Familiarity with the GMD domain and GMD Launch Support Systems hardware.
  • DOORS and/or CAMEO exposure.
  • Familiarity with thermal (Ansys Icepak) and structural (NX, Femap, Abaqus) analysis, MIL-STD-810.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, coordinate, and execute large-scale environmental qualification test campaigns (e.g., test plan/procedure development, supplier contracts, stakeholder coordination, test execution, test report development).
  • Experience using a 3D CAD Package such as SolidWorks, Creo, or NX.
  • Experience reviewing 2D mechanical drawings per ASME standards.
  • Experience using engineering PLM systems such as Teamcenter and MRP systems such as SAP.
  • Experience evaluating vendor documents to ensure specifications and datasheets meet requirements.
  • Familiarity with MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-1366, MIL-STD-1472, ASME Y14.5, ASME Y14.100, MIL-STD-31000.

Pay

  • Mechanical Engineer – Level 2: $79,600.00 - $119,400.00
  • Principal Mechanical Engineer – Level 3: $98,900.00 - $148,300.00
