Hematology Physician Scientist

Job Duties

  • Engage in active collaborative research and build clinical and/or translational research in the division.
  • Obtain/maintain independent extramural funding.
  • Direct patient care at UW Health locations, including ambulatory, inpatient and consult service attending.
  • Develop and teach in a clinical practice environment.
  • Support efforts to improve diversity in clinical trial participants.
  • Engage in administrative and committee work to support the clinical and scholarly missions of UW Health and the School of Medicine and Public Health.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • 25-30%: Direct patient care at UW Health locations, including ambulatory, inpatient and consult service attending.
  • 70-75%: Develop a research program or teaching program and engage in scholarly activities.
  • Teach medical students, residents, and fellows within the context of your clinical practice.
  • Proactively support efforts to improve diversity in clinical trial participants.
  • Participate in administrative and committee work to support the clinical and scholarly missions of UW Health and the School of Medicine and Public Health.
  • Work in a collegial relationship with other faculty members.

Required Qualifications

  • Board certification or board eligibility in Hematology/Oncology or Medical Oncology by the appointment start date.
  • American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) Certification required.
  • Eligible for enrollment as a billing provider and for all necessary hospital privileges by the appointment start date.
  • Wisconsin medical license required by the appointment start date.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in an academic medical setting preferred.
  • Qualification and experience in health services research, clinical or translational research, with a track record of successful publications in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Evidence of excellence in teaching.
  • High potential to maintain and obtain research funding.
  • Area(s) of clinical and research interest in hematologic conditions.
